Botswana Safari 2009
Having flown to Maun and enjoyed 4 days at a lodge in the Delta, Black Pot Safaris will meet you at Maun airport with your own fully-customised Land Rover Defender. From there we will drive 3 hours to the Mankwe Concession on the edge of the Moremi Game Reserve. Here we will spend one night camping in private campsites under huge indigenous trees! That night you will enjoy a game drive with the lodge guides.
Days 2 and 3: Moremi Game Reserve
After an early breakfast we will enter the Moremi Game Reserve at South Gate and after discussion with the rangers at the gate hopefully head for the north-western section of the park for two nights camping at either Third Bridge or Xakanaxa. We will spend the next two nights camping in this wonderfully wild park and our days exploring the reserve.
Days 3 and 4: Savuti Camp, Chobe National Park
Today we will rise early and have a quick breakfast before driving on sand roads through the Mababe Depression to Savuti Camp. This drive should take about 8 hours, but very much depends on the conditions of the roads and what we see as we drive through the Park! This will be a "road food" day as there will not be time to stop for lunch. We will camp here for two nights and explore this very special part of the Chobe National Park.
Days 5 and 6: Ihaha Camp, Chobe National Park
Today we will drive the remaining distance through Chobe National Park to Ihaha Camp on the well-known "Chobe Riverfront" section of the park. This drive should take about 5 hours, but again depends on the conditions of the roads and what we see! We will spend the next two nights at Ihaha and your days will be spent game driving along the river and relaxing in camp.
Days 7 and 8: Peregrine's Nest Bushcamp, Livingstone
After breakfast we will prepare ourselves and our vehicles to cross the great Zambezi River on the Kazungula Ferry and then drive the short distance to Livingstone. We will be staying at the little known Peregrine's Nest Bushcamp, 10km out of Livingstone - the adrenaline capital of Zambia - to experience the wonders of Victoria Falls. We will be based here for the next two nights and enjoy total privacy on the edge of the Batoka Gorge. Whilst in Livingstone you will visit the falls and wander around the exceptional craft market.
Days 9 and 10: Nata Lodge, Nata
Today we will rise early to take the Kazungula Ferry back to Kasane and then drive on tar roads through the Kasane, Kazuma and Sibuyu Forest Reserves to the Nata Lodge campsite where we will spend the next two nights and allow you time to enjoy the lush surroundings of the Lodge and its beautiful swimming pool. A guided drive to Nata Sanctuary on the Sowa Pan is included so you can appreciate the expanse of this salt-encrusted wilderness and the vast majority of birds that live there.
Days 11 and 12: Meno A Kwena Tented Camp, Boteti
After a cooked breakfast we will drive to Meno a Kwena Tented Camp on the dry Boteti River - an area famous for its zebra population - where we will spend two nights with David Dugmore and his fabulous staff. Here you will enjoy two game drives in open vehicles and the spectacular views offered by this child-friendly camp. This is a fully-inclusive experience.
Day 13: Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Khama
After your breakfast we will drive 450 km on tar roads to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary where we will spend our last night camping at Mokongwa Camp. We will arrive in time for a late lunch before you depart on a game drive to see some of the only rhinos in Botswana.
Day 14: Killarney Farm House, Mpumalanga
After a leisurely breakfast we will drive 160 km to the South African border where you will follow us in convoy to Killarney Farm House. The journey from the border to Killarney will take about 5 hours. Black Pot Safaris will settle you into Killarney and cook dinner. After a last breakfast together the next morning your Black Pot Safari is sadly over and we leave you to enjoy the magical beauty of Killarney Farm House. However, before we leave we will ensure that your Land Rover is collected and your hire car has arrived. We will then be in phone contact to ensure that your Killarney Farm House experience is exactly what it should be.
Total cost of the safari for 14 nights/15 days is R134,358 inclusive VAT. This figure has been calculated on 2 people driving a vehicle accompanied by a Black Pot Safaris lead vehicle. This works out at R4,479 per person per day and is inclusive of a fully-customised Land Rover Defender delivered to Maun and collected from Nelspruit with all camping equipment, fuel, tolls and vehicle permits, all food and snacks, firewood and gas, drinking water and cordial, camping, lodge and park entrance fees, activities as specified, Zambian visas, local agent fees and our lead vehicle fees, constant contact via 2-way radio and a satellite phone in case of emergencies.
